Matthew Barrett, 27, has been in jail since June, WHNT reports. The news station received an email from Barrett's wife late Monday stating that she planned to be in court with her husband today in Pakistan.
According to The Guardian, a British newspaper, Barrett stopped his Land Rover Defender just outside the city of Fateh Jang, home to an advanced military research facility that produces long-range missiles and depleted uranium tank ammunition.
"There was this sign that said no foreigners pass this point, and I stopped. I motioned to the guard to ask if I was going the right way, or the wrong way," WHNT quoted Matthew Barrett saying in an online video.
Barrett told The Guardian, "Now Pakistan and America have some problems. So they're taking it out on me."
