OXFORD, Al.
The Olive Garden restaurant in Oxford has agreed to erect a flagpole on its grounds as part of an apology to the local Kiwanis club.
A member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club became upset earlier this month after the restaurant would not allow her to display an American flag during a club banquet at the facility. Darden, the Orlando, Fla.,-based firm that owns the Olive Garden chain, apologized to the club and agreed to display a flag outside the restaurant.
Olive Garden told the group it had a policy against any flags or banners being hung in its restaurants. But a week later the company said employees at the restaurant were confused and no such policy exists.
