A man was shot to death early Saturday at a Mount Vernon night club, authorities said, and another man surrendered late Saturday night in connection with the incident.
The victim was identified as Bryant Bettis, according to Mobile County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Lori Myles.
Bettis was shot four times and was found about 1 a.m. lying in the doorway by Mount Vernon police arriving at the Oak tree Lounge at 17765 U.S. 43, Myles said.
Bettis was pronounced dead at the scene.
After Mount Vernon Public Safety Director Jerry Taylor asked for the help of the sheriff’s office, it was determined that Bettis got into an argument with a man known to him, leading to the shooting.
About 9 p.m. Saturday, Bryant Beal, 34, surrendered at Mobile County Metro Jail and was charged with murder. He remained in jail tonight without bail, and a hearing was set for Beal on Monday morning in Mobile County District Court, according to jail records.
The club is located on the south end of Mount Vernon between Small Road and Kelly Road in the Movico community.
