TUSCALOOSA, Al.
The Tuscaloosa City Council is asking the federal government for $15 million to do renovations and upgrades to the city's airport.
The city will request money from the Federal Aviation Administration to fund six projects over the next five years. The city and state would have to put up nearly $400,000 each as part of a required 5% match.
Airport director Wayne Cameron said it's unlikely the city will get funding for all six projects. Last year, the city asked for $18 million but received just $2.7 million to pave a taxiway.
Much of this year's requests include projects not funded by the FAA in previous years: upgrading runway lights, repaving an aviation ramp and conducting a wildlife hazard study.
