Montgomery, Al.
Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded $100,000 to pave the way for the expansion of an Abbeville business and the creation of 10 additional jobs.
Abbeville will use the Community Development Block Grant to provide public sewer services that will enable American Machine and Manufacturing Inc. to expand and increase its number of employees to 38.
The company produces metal and plastic components used in industrial washing machines, railroad and agricultural equipment and light fixtures.
“American Machine and Manufacturing is a true hometown success story,” Bentley said. “Beginning as a small repair shop for farm and pulpwood equipment just 10 years ago, the company recognized a need and made a determined effort to expand its market and clientele. I am pleased to award this funding.”
Located on Industrial Park Road, American Machine and Manufacturing has experienced problems with its private septic system. Replacement of the system would be costly and would delay the expansion, according to owners.
Abbeville officials say that having public sewer services available will enhance their ability to attract other industries to the area. The city is providing $23,000 in local funding for the project.
Bentley awarded the grant from funds made available to the state by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant.
Bentley notified Mayor Ryan Blalock that the grant had been approved.
