Authorities make 2 early morning arrests in Gibbs Village shooting

MONTGOMERY, Alabama – Police arrested two individuals early this morning in connection with the shooting that claimed two lives in Gibbs Village last week, Montgomery Department of Public Safety Director Chris Murphy confirmed today.
Murphy stated that one arrest was made on an attempted murder charge, the other on a single hindering prosecution charge. Names of the two suspects taken into custody have yet to be released by authorities.
Murphy said that the department anticipates additional charges to follow in the coming days once forensic analysis of the evidence is turned over to police.
The shooting, which occurred Aug. 30 on the 1800 block of Gibbs Drive, resulted in the deaths of 21-year-old Jaderico Langford and 18-year-old Deswana Gregory. The two victims both died of multiple gunshot wounds and marked Montgomery's 24th and 25th homicides of 2011. Two other people, a 31-year-old woman and her 14-year-old son, also sustained minor injuries during the incident.
Murphy and Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange commended the Gibbs Village residents who came forward as witnesses to help solve the crime.
"This partnership between the people and the law is key to solving any crime," said Murphy.
According to an Associated Press report, Langford's mother had appealed to residents who witnessed the crime to come forward to authorities.
Police are also asking individuals with knowledge of these shootings to call CrimeStoppers at 334-215-STOP, Secret Witness at 334-262-4000, or the Montgomery Police Department at 334-625-2831.
A meeting is set for Gibbs Village today at 6 p.m. to give residents an opportunity to discuss the situation with authorities and city officials.
Murphy said the investigation is ongoing.
