BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Birmingham police are investigating a Sunday night burglary at the Birmingham offices of the American Red Cross Alabama Region, a Red Cross spokesman announced today.
Chris Osborne said the Red Cross was notified by police that the office at 114 22nd St. S. had been burglarized.
When Birmingham Police and Red Cross officials arrived, they found two large plate glass windows on the front of the building had been broken. The front door was vandalized and a flat-screen television stolen. No one was at the office at the time of the break-in, Osborne said.
"It's really sad that someone would take resources from a non-profit organization whose primary role is to help people," Jean Petties, executive director of the Birmingham Red Cross office, said in an email.
Birmingham police are investigating and the Red Cross is repairing damages to the property.
