On December 18, 2011 members of the Dothan Police Department conducted a routine traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Matthew Swerengin and occupied by passengers Lindsey Ann Clark and Christopher Emery. During the investigative stop, Swearengin admitted all three vehicle occupants had left the Knights Inn (2841 Ross Clark Circle) where there had been a
Methamphetamine Lab. Police also learned a fourth suspect, Shaun Paul Davis, had rented the room and was still there. Narcotic Investigators went to the vicinity of the room and detected a strong odor of chemicals at which time investigators obtained a search warrant. Upon entry into the room, Davis was taken into custody and police recovered samples of a bi-layered liquid, approximately 2 grams of Methamphetamine, a bag containing chemicals used in the production of Methamphetamines, 2 handguns and scales. All four subjects were arrested and charged with First Degree Manufacturing, Possession of Precursor Chemicals and Trafficking Methamphetamine.

Narcotics investigators say Davis was also charged with an additional count of First Degree Manufacturing in conjunction with an open investigation from December 17, 2011. The investigation of this incident revealed police were called to the Westgate Inn (3053 Ross Clark Circle) after receiving a call that a cleaning crew found what they believed to be discarded items left behind from a methamphetamine lab. Police say Davis had rented the room the day before and later admitted he was responsible for the lab.
