Lee County authorities find inmate hanging

Lee County, Al.
A 42-year-old inmate found hanging from a vestibule security bar in the Lee County Detention Facility has been identified as Alesia Witherspoon, Lee County Sheriff’s Office Chief Investigator Capt. Van Jackson said Friday.
Witherspoon, whose identity was withheld pending notification of family, was discovered hanging in a common area at 8:40 a.m. Thursday, Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones said.
A detention facility nurse and doctor were unable to resuscitate Witherspoon, who was pronounced dead at 8:55 a.m.
Witherspoon was originally arrested Tuesday on charges of conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime and a probation violation, Jackson said.
No foul play is suspected in the incident and Witherspoon’s remains have been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy. The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is handling the case.
