A single-vehicle accident claimed the life of a Smiths Station man on Wednesday, according to the Lee County Coroner’s office.
Milton Joe McCoy, 56, died of complications from multiple blunt force injuries he sustained in an accident on Tuesday, said Lee County Coroner Bill Harris.
The accident occurred after the 1997 Honda Accord McCoy was driving left the road, Lee Road 861, and struck a tree at approximately 7:38 p.m. Tuesday, according to an Alabama Department of Public Safety release. McCoy was not wearing a seatbelt and a preliminary investigation of the accident does not indicate that alcohol was a factor, said Sgt. Steve Jarrett, ADPS public information/ education officer.
Family members arriving on the scene transported McCoy to the Columbus Regional Medical Center (Ga.), Harris said. McCoy succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday morning, Harris said.
The accident remains under investigation by State Troopers.
