A birthday party turned violent at an apartment complex in Cottondale late Friday, leaving five partygoers wounded as well as one of two gunmen who intruded on the gathering demanding money.

Three of the six people shot received life-threatening injuries.

Tuscaloosa County Sheriff Ted Sexton described what authorities know so far at a press conference this afternoon.

Both of the intruders are accounted for. One of the robbers was shot and is in DCH, the other was apprehended at a relative's home.

When authorities arrived at the apartment complex in the 5300 block of Ken Sealy Drive at about 11:30 p.m., they found four people wounded in one apartment and one other wounded person in a separate apartment building.

Sexton said many details have yet to be discerned, but the birthday party was attended by a number of teenagers. Two men entered the apartment unit where the party was being hosted, pulled out handguns and demanded cash.

It was an 18-year-old partygoer who returned fire on the intruders, wounding one in the abdomen. Someone dropped him off at DCH, where he required surgery, and authorities were summoned.

One or both of the intruders shot five people who had come for the party.

The intruder who was not wounded was arrested at a relative's house in Cottondale, Sexton said.

Donald Deshun Wynn, 23, taken into custody. He faces five counts of first-degree robbery, two counts of attempted murder, one count of burglary in the first degree, two counts of second-degree assault and one count of first-degree assault. His bond totals $540,000.

The injured suspect is also a 23-year-old man, and he is in stable condition.

Authorities have yet to talk to all the victims, Sexton said, and the investigation continues.

The party-goers injured are:

A 17-year-old male shot in the chest, in critical condition;

An 18-year-old male, shot in the side, in stable condition;

An 18-year-old female, shot in the abdomen, in critical condition;

An 18-year-old male, shot in the arm, in stable condition;

A 20-year-old male, shot in the leg, treated and released Friday night.
