Free Thanksgiving feast at Chuck's Fish in Tuscaloosa to benefit nonprofit

TUSCALOOSA, Al.
Downtown restaurant Chuck's Fish will open its doors Thursday for its second annual Thanksgiving Charity Feast to benefit local nonprofit Project Blessings.

Free lunches of traditional Thanksgiving food will be offered from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Chuck's is located at
508 Greensboro Avenue.

Marsha Sprayberry, who started Project Blessings in 2009 to help low-income home owners repair their homes, said last year's feast was organized after the group was contacted by Chuck's owner Charles Morgan. Morgan holds a similar event at his Destin, Fla., restaurant Harbor Docks.

"It's just for anybody who would like to come and have Thanksgiving with us, and they're all welcome," Sprayberry said.

Between 100 and 200 people were served last year. Sprayberry said $4,500 was raised for Project Blessings using only two buckets at the front of restaurant to collect donations.

Staff members at Chuck's Fish are volunteering their time to cook and Project Blessings volunteers will serve guests during the lunch.

Sprayberry said her organization has seen an increased need for help with repairs in the wake of the April 27 tornado and will use donations from the Thanksgiving event to fund those projects.
