When something's amiss at your house, it's nice to be able to call the off-duty police officer next door.
According to a statement from the Lee County Sheriff's Office, a burglary took place shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday in the 300 block of Day Lilly Street.
Ladarious Ricks, 20, of Loachapoka, was arrested inside the house and is accused of taking a flat screen television, several weapons and miscellaneous jewelry.
The victims left for church around 5:30 p.m. and returned around 7:45 p.m. When they returned they noticed a light turn on then off inside the home. They called 911 and then contacted their neighbor, who is an Auburn police officer. The neighbor held the suspect at gunpoint until Lee County Deputy Sheriffs arrived.
Some of the victim's stolen property was recovered in a wooded area near the home and some was found in the possession of the suspect. An orange 1997 Nissan 200 SX was also located in the area and linked to Ricks.
Ricks was arrested and charged with one count of third-degree burglary and one count of first-degree theft of property. He is being held in the Lee County Detention Facility on a $6,000 bond.
