Fort Payne inmate’s death under investigation

The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is investigating the death of an inmate at the Fort Payne City Jail, according to a news release from Fort Payne Police Chief Randy Bynum.
David Wayne Kuykendall, 47, was found unresponsive in his cell a few hours after he was arrested on third-degree domestic violence, a misdemeanor. He was arrested about 9:35 p.m. Friday on a charge of third-degree domestic violence, and later was found by Fort Payne Police corrections officers. Fort Payne Fire Department and DeKalb Ambulance Service personnel responded to the city jail and attempted to resuscitate Kuykendall, Bynum said. Kuykendall was taken to DeKalb Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead about 1 a.m. Saturday.
