Birmingham police seek information in slayings of five men in Ensley Highlands

BIRMINGHAM, Al.
Birmingham police are asking for help in identifying and locating the persons responsible for the shooting deaths of five men early this morning in the Ensley Highlands neighborhood in the western portion of the city.

At least four of the victims were shot execution style. Police and relatives say the robbery was interrupted by several men, whom safely escaped.

Police have confirmed that they have been interviewing potential witnesses this morning in the deaths at 3113 Avenue S but so far have not made any arrests in the case.

"Someone out there knows more information ... We know someone is going to do the right thing," said Sgt. Johnny Williams, public information officer for the Birmingham Police Department.

Police believe that robbery was the motive in the deaths and that more than one person was responsible. "It obviously appears to us this horrific crime was not a random act of violence," said Birmingham Police Chief A.C. Roper.

Williams asked that anyone with information about the deaths to call homicide detectives at 254-1764 or CrimeStoppers at 254-7777.
