EBPD make arrests in meth manufacturing case

East Brewton Police followed their instincts Sunday night and cracked a case involving the manufacturing of meth.
Scott Mitchell Emmons, 45, and his son, Lonnie Emmons, 18, of East Brewton were arrested along with Amanda Salter, 27, on charges of unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance (meth) after a routine traffic stop Sunday night.
East Brewton Officer Clemente Brooks said the traffic stop uncovered evidence that lead to a search of the Emmons home.
“We had been investigating tips about the manufacturing of meth at the Emmons home on Boyd Street for a few weeks,” Brooks said. “Scott Mitchell Emmons was a passenger in the vehicle stopped around 9 p.m. Sunday night. During a search, we found a packet containing a suspicious substance in his pocket. Since Emmons was a suspect in our investigation, we conducted the search of the home.”
Brooks said when officer gained entrance into the home, items consistent with the manufacturing of methamphetamines were found.
“We found what is known as a ’shake and bake’ operation,” Brooks said. “There were two buckets that had plastic bottles containing ingredients used in making meth.”
Brooks said a search of the home also turned up marijuana as well as other drug paraphernalia.
“All of the materials used in the shake and bake items were found in one room,” Brooks said. “The marijuana and paraphernalia were found in other rooms in the house.”
East Brewton Police Chief Kenny Brazile praised Brooks for his work and vowed to continue investigating leads in such cases in the city.
“He did a great job on this case and is working on others,” Brazile said. “This was good work for our department and we’re glad to get this case solved. We are working on other cases as well and hope to get resolution in those cases soon.”
Scott Mitchell Emmons was charged with first degree unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance (methamphetamines), unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, second degree unlawful possession of marijuana, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Lonnie Emmons was charged with unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance, second degree unlawful possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Amanda Salter was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamines), second degree possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
All three suspects were transported to the Escambia County Detention Center where they were booked on the charges against them. No information on bond set in each case was available Monday evening.
