FAIRFIELD, Al.
The mother of a 5-week old baby girl reported kidnapped today in Fairfield has been arrested and taken into custody by Fairfield police, authorities said.
The child's mother, identified by family members as 23-year-old Breanna Giles, was questioned by police and the FBI shortly after reporting her baby had been found at a park in Wylam this evening about 5:30 p.m.
The mother told police this morning a woman pretending to be an employee of the Alabama Department of Human Resources took her child from her at her home, claiming she was taking the baby into protective custody. But DHR had no record of the pickup.
The baby is now at the Fairfield Police Department, and police are seeking to charge the mother with filing a false police report, a misdemeanor.
