ATMORE, Al.
Twin 18-year-old sisters were each charged today with 3 counts of reckless murder in connection with a fire Wednesday that killed 3 children ages 3 and younger who were left home alone, Escambia County District Attorney Steve Billy said.
Akeevia Lajoseia Abner and Tekeevia Lajoseialan Abner were arrested today by the state fire marshal and taken to Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton, where they were held without bail, Billy said.
Billy identified the women as the mothers of the children who died in the fire.
According to Billy, the twins left 3-year-old Aniyia Abner, 3-year-old Takia Abner and 22-month-old Michael Coleman alone on Wednesday night, when fire consumed the home in the 100 block of 1st Street in Atmore.
Assistant state fire marshal Scott Pilgreen said 2 of the children were found dead in a hallway, and the other was found in the bedroom.
According to Billy, the preliminary marshal's report said that fire was caused by a stove left unattended.
