Troy University alerts students to possible tuberculosis case at school

TROY, Al.
Authorities say a Troy University student is suspected of having contracted tuberculosis, and school officials are alerting fellow students and parents.
School officials sent an email to the staff at the main campus in Troy on Monday.
Dean of Student Services Herb Reeves said the Alabama Department of Public Health is working closely with university officials to identify any students and staff who may have been in close contact with the student. Officials plan a 2 p.m. press conference to discuss the case.
Officials said that tuberculosis is a treatable and preventable disease, and that people who were in close contact with the student will be assessed and appropriate preventive measures will be taken.
The Department of Public Health recommends that only those who were in close contact with the student need to be tested.
