4 year old Benjamin Pomeroy of Eufaula dies of leukemia

Eufaula, Al.
Benjamin's brave fight against his cancer was an inspiration to everyone who met or heard about him. We are sad to report that Benjamin Pomeroy, 4, of Eufaula died Thursday morning after a nine-month long battle with cancer. Benjamin was diagnosed with leukemia in April 2011and underwent treatment including a bone marrow transplant, chemotherapy and surgery before doctors said in mid-December there was nothing more they could do. His story touched thousands of lives as Eufaula and the surrounding area rallied for Benjamin and his family. Through Facebook updates posted by Family and Friends, hundreds of Facebookers were touched by his story and made checking on Benjamin's condition a top priority once signing in. Most of those Facebookers said that even though they had never met Benjamin or his family, it was like checking on family.
The morning of Dec. 22, volunteers created a winter wonderland for him to enjoy after learning he had told his Mom of wanting to make snow-angels after watching a holiday movie. A New Jersey company that could make fake snow went to Florida, where their equipment was being used, filled a truck with fake snow and drove it to Children's Hospital to make his wish come true. Although he was weak that morning and unable to make his own snow angel, he watched his Mom make one for him. He also supervised a snow ball fight and the building of a snow man.
The Visitation will be held Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church sanctuary. The funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church, with burial following at the Sardis Freewill Baptist Church cemetery.
