On January 14, 2012 the Dothan Police Department and Dothan Fire Department responded to a medical emergency at a residence in the 200 block of Grandvilla Drive. The victim, a three year old male, was in critical condition with severe head trauma and was being taken immediately into surgery. Following surgery at a local medical facility, the child was airlifted to Birmingham on January 15, 2012 where he remains in critical condition.
Investigators first questioned the child’s mother. According to her statement, she left for work around 5:45 p.m. and left the victim in the care of her boyfriend Eddie Dubose. Around 7:45 p.m. she received a call from Dubose telling her that something was wrong with the baby and she needed to come home. While in route to her home she observed an ambulance leaving her residence and immediately went to the hospital. The child’s mother told investigators Dubose has been living with her for approximately one month.
Investigators also questioned Dubose who gave at least three separate accounts of how the child was injured. None of Dubose’s accounts of the incident were consistent with the child’s injuries. Dubose was arrested for aggravated child abuse. Investigators say the case remains open and further charges may be pending.
