Fire destroys family home in Millertown community; family escaped but pets are lost

MILLERTOWN, Alabama
Fire destroyed a family home in the 9000 block of McNeil Road early this morning, according to the Semmes Volunteer Fire Department.
No one was injured, and all family members escaped safely, Fire Chief Terry Sexton said.
The single-story wood frame home was fully ablaze when firefighters arrived after getting the alarm at 2:40 a.m., Sexton said. He added that the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department was called to assist in putting the fire out.

The home was a total loss, Sexton said. The family’s pets died in the fire, he said.
A cause has not been determined, but Sexton said the fire started in the utility room.
The home is in a neighborhood off McCrary Road Extension north of Lott Road in the Millertown community, well north of the Semmes central business district.
