Man breaks into home, wakes Point Clear woman with 'physical contact'

POINT CLEAR, Alabama
A man broke into a Point Clear home early this morning and woke the owner, a woman who was there alone, with "physical contact," police said.
The woman pulled away from the man and ran to a neighbor's home where she called police. Officers arrived to find that the man was gone and nothing had been taken from the woman's home, said Sgt. Craig Sawyer, Fairhope police spokesman.
"Although this may have been an isolated incident, we wanted to release this information to the public to encourage them to be careful and lock up," Sawyer said. Asked whether the incident constituted attempted rape, Sawyer said investigators "don't know enough to say what the man's intent was."
He also said investigators did not want to characterize the nature of the "physical contact."
"We want to notify everyone, but don't want to alarm the community too much," Sawyer said.
The suspect was described as a black man of unknown age and about 6 feet tall.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Fairhope police at 251-928-2385.
