Redstone Arsenal soldier imprisoned for knowingly spreading AIDS virus

The Huntsville Times/File photo
HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — Military officials say a Redstone Arsenal soldier is in a military prison after he was court martialed for knowingly spreading the AIDS virus.
Officials say Sgt. Brandon Clarett was found guilty last month of multiple counts of assault "likely to cause death or grievous bodily harm" along with violating his superior's command. He was given a dishonorable discharge and will spend the next 30 months at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas.
Officials say Clarett had unprotected sex with his victims and did not first inform them he was HIV-positive.
Capt. Derek Eichholz says Clarrett was diagnosed with HIV several years ago and was given explicit orders of what he could and could not do, including telling all prospective sexual partners about his diagnosis.
Updated at 1:58 p.m. to correct the use of "martialed."
