MONTGOMERY, Al.
Alabama State Troopers say they investigated five fatal crashes that resulted in six deaths during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
Troopers say the fatalities occurred in Mobile, Russell, Etowah, Washington and Madison counties. Two people were killed in Etowah County.
Investigators say five of the six were not wearing seat belts, and that alcohol was a factor in three of the fatalities.
Troopers say that despite bad weather, they did not investigate any traffic deaths Sunday, the day most holiday travelers headed home.
During the same period last year, troopers investigated seven of the state's 12 traffic deaths.
