Tuscaloosa City Councilman Kip Tyner arrested, charged with cocaine possession

Tuscaloosa District 5 City Councilman Kip Tyner was arrested Friday night on a charge of cocaine possession, according to police.

At approximately 11:40 p.m., an investigator with the Tuscaloosa County Homicide Unit and Tuscaloosa Police officers responded to Tree Top Apartments at 5100 East 36th Avenue to try and locate a witness in a homicide.

Officers went into the apartment and knocked on the door. They were given consent to enter and look for the witness. They did not locate the witness but located cocaine on a mirror in the living room of the apartment.

Two suspects inside the apartment were taken into custody for unlawful possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia (crack pipes).

Tyner, 56, was placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $18,000 bond.

Darren Dwayne Cooper, 46, of Tuscaloosa was arrested on charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail with a bond of $18,000.
