SHELBY COUNTY, Al.
An Oak Mountain Elementary kindergarten student trying to cross a road to get to the bus stop was struck by a vehicle this morning, said a spokeswoman for the Shelby County Board of Education.
The student, whose name has not been released, was airlifted by helicopter to Childrens Hospital with serious injuries, which did not appear to be life threatening, said Cindy Warner, spokeswoman for Shelby County's school system.
The bus was approaching the bus stop when the girl crossed a road towards the bus stop, Warner said.
The school's counselor is available for students at Oak Mountain Elementary School to talk to, Warner said. Some students on the bus and at the bus stop witnessed what happened, she said.
