Deputy okay after 18-wheeler hits patrol car

MONTGOMERY CO., AL.
A Montgomery County Sheriff's Deputy's patrol car was destroyed early Friday morning after being struck by an 18-wheeler.
The deputy, unidentified, was not in the car at the time of the crash and was not injured. The 18-wheeler driver also escaped injury.
The incident happened around 4:30am on Interstate 65 as the deputy assisted Alabama State Troopers with traffic control due to another, unrelated crash.
State Trooper Sgt. Steve Jarrett said the deputy was diverting traffic at the 164 mile marker (Pintlala/Hope Hull) when the 18-wheeler plowed into the Ford Crown Victoria police cruiser.
Sgt. Jarrett said the patrol car had its blue lights activated at the time of the crash and that the deputy ran to avoid being hit.
The original, unrelated crash that Troopers were working occurred at 4:00am at the 159 mile marker in Montgomery County.
Two vehicles were involved and two non-life threatening injuries were reported. One of the drivers, going northbound in the southbound lane, crashed into the second vehicle.
Troopers say the suspect was arrested and charged with DUI.
