Teams of Baldwin County sheriff’s deputies, police officers and U.S. marshals arrested 17 people and were looking for 12 more on drug and other charges following a countywide sweep, a spokesman said Thursday.
The arrests by the Baldwin County Drug Task Force came after an undercover operation lasting several months, said Maj. Anthony Lowery of the Sheriff’s Office. The operation was named “New Year’s Resolution.”
“There were four teams yesterday roving the county,” Lowery said. “Each team had numerous officers and U.S. marshals assigned to it.”
Most of the arrests announced Thursday were for distribution of controlled substances. Lowery said the arrests were part of an ongoing effort to round up people attempting to sell drugs.
“We’re continuously doing undercover operations,” he said. “We decided to go ahead and do a roundup because we had a bunch of outstanding warrants.”
Those still at large and wanted on charges of distribution of a controlled substance include:
Warrants have also been issued for Cody O. Sellers, 23, Stockton, for possession of a controlled substance, and Lauren G. Clark, 43, Fairhope, for first-degree manufacture of a controlled substance.
Dustin Lee Beard, 24, of Gulf Shores, first-degree manufacture of a controlled substance; Vera James, 50, of Foley, distribution of a controlled substance; Flemon Cooks III, 24, of Foley, distribution of a controlled substance; Lonnie L. Casey Jr., 41, of Foley, possession of a controlled substance; Jimmy L. Johnson, 34, of Foley, distribution of a controlled substance; Michael Cory Allen, 24, of Summerdale, distribution of a controlled substance; and Joshua D. Law, 21, of Elberta, distribution of a controlled substance.
Those arrested on outstanding warrants as part of the roundup included: Ray Charles Knight, assault; John Finley, parole violation; Manquez D. Adams, who was also charged with possession of a controlled substance; and Gerald Prim on a warrant for negotiating a worthless instrument. Richard Jones was arrested on a warrant from Escambia County. Fla., while Tyson G. Heard was arrested on a police warrant from Foley.
The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Drug Task Force includes officers assigned from the Bay Minette, Loxley, Foley, and Gulf Shores police departments as well as the District Attorney’s Office, U.S. Marshal’s Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force and FBI Violent Crimes Task Force. The Summerdale and Elberta police departments assisted. Also working with the task force were deputies from the Uniformed Services Command and Correction Command.
