W.Newton Street woman shot by boyfriend

On December 30, 2011 the Dothan Police Department responded to a firearm assault on the 1100 block of West Newton Street just after 9:30 p.m. Upon arrival, police found an adult female suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was able to tell police she and her boyfriend were outside of their apartment when they heard noise coming from the back of the complex. She stated her boyfriend walked toward the back and saw a black male armed with a handgun wearing dark clothing and a mask. The victim said her boyfriend began running down Newton Street and she too ran. The victim said she made it into her apartment and once inside the suspect shot at her front door. A bullet passed through the door striking her in the chest. The victim was taken to a local hospital where she was listed in stable condition and scheduled for surgery to remove the bullet from her chest.
