Two Auburn University students injured in single-car accident

Two Auburn University students were injured in a single-car accident near Auburn early Sunday evening leaving one in critical condition in a Columbus, Ga., hospital.
The Alabama State Troopers report that Elizabeth Lauren “Libbie” Ainsworth was airlifted to Columbus Regional Medical Center after the accident. Ainsworth is listed as being from Coppell, Texas, in the Auburn University telephone directory.
Ainsworth was listed in critical condition Monday afternoon, according to Marion Scott, director of corporate communications for Columbus Regional.
John Atkinson, spokesman for East Alabama Medical Center, said Drew Cole, the other student, was treated and released at EAMC Sunday. Cole is listed as an Auburn University defensive back from Picayune, Miss., on the athletic department website’s football roster.
The Alabama State Troopers reported that the accident happened on U.S. Highway 280 West near Lee County Road 86 at approximately 8:35 p.m. Sunday, and that Ainsworth was ejected from the vehicle.
