Fl. couple killed in Lee Co. accident

 Smiths Station, Al.
The year 2011 ended in tragedy for a Florida couple early Saturday morning.
Lee County Coroner Bill Harris reports that A.C. and Eunice Jordan of Live Oak, Fla., were killed instantly in the early morning accident in the 11000 block on U.S. Highway 280 East near Smiths Station.
Harris said that it appears that the Jordans were actually involved in two accidents.
It is unclear why, but it appears that the Jordans were traveling east on U.S. Highway 280 when they were stalled, traveling at a very slow speed, or stopped in the roadway when their Lexus sedan was struck from behind by a Ford Taurus, whose driver could not avoid the Jordans’ vehicle.
The Jordans apparently got out of their vehicle and were standing behind it, when a Ford pickup traveling east struck them and their vehicle, killing both instantly, at approximately 7 a.m.
The coroner said weather was a possible factor in the accident.
The driver of the Ford pickup was transported by ambulance to East Alabama Medical Center for treatment of his injuries, and the driver of the Ford Taurus went to the hospital for evaluation by private vehicle.
Neither driver suffered life threatening injuries, and it is believed they were treated and released.
The eastbound lane was closed for several hours while the Alabama State Troopers investigated the accident.
It is believed that the Jordans had been visiting relatives in Alexander City and were on their way home to Live Oak, Fla., according to Harris.
The accident remains under investigation by the Alabama State Troopers and the Lee County Coroner’s office.
