Anniston police responded to a shooting call at a trailer at 600 N. Marshall St. in Wellborn sometime after 5 p.m. on the first day of the New Year, Sgt. Glenn Pettus said.
Police didn’t release the identifications of the victim involved but noted that William Cain, 50, used a shotgun to fire at an acquaintance, hitting the victim in the arm.
Cain is charged with felony first-degree assault and was booked in the City Jail about an hour after police responded to his trailer.
The crime scene was quiet and relatively low-key this evening as Anniston Crime Scene Investigator Paul Riddle snapped photos of the trailer and vehicle located on the Wellborn property, which rested at the corner of Madison and Marshall streets.
Two on-call investigators arrived, spending only several minutes at the residence before leaving to go back to the police station.
As those investigators conferred with Riddle and another Anniston patrol officer, nearby neighbors began to shoot fireworks into the air – the only real source of sound in the area.
Sgt. Josh Doggrell with the investigative division said police planned to continue investigating the circumstances leading up to the crime and the relationship between Cain and the victim.
The patrol officer at the shooting scene remarked that Anniston police over the years had responded to a variety of calls at that trailer but didn’t specify what type of calls those were.
