Tuscaloosa Councilman to Enter Pretrial Program

A Tuscaloosa City County member is entering a pretrial diversion program following his arrest on drug possession charges.
Court records show the 56-year-old Kip Tyner and another man were arrested Dec. 3 at an apartment where officers said they found crack cocaine and crack pipes. He was released on bond and remains on the City Council.
The Tuscaloosa County District Attorney's Office says most participants are in the diversion program for about a year. Only non-violent, first-time offenders are eligible.

Tyner will participate in a program called C.L.E.A.N. under court supervision. It requires Tyner to submit to drug tests, possible drug treatment, to serve community service hours and to pay all court costs.
Tyner was a TV weatherman in Tuscaloosa before joining the council.
