3rd homicide discovered in Birmingham in eight hours

BIRMINGHAM, Al.
Birmingham police are investigating the shooting death of a Center Point man killed late Tuesday, the third fatal shooting discovered in the city within an eight-hour time period.
Derrick Montreals Peoples, 31, was pronounced dead at 11:32 p.m., said Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Bill Yates.
Officers were called to the 1100 block of 14th Street North at 11:23 p.m. on a report of shots fired.
They found Peoples on the upstairs landing of the apartment building, Yates said.
Authorities said there appeared to have been a gunfight. No other information was immediately available.
Earlier Tuesday, 33-year-old Demetrius Davis was found inside a car, shot multiple times. Davis was found about 4 p.m., but police said he could have been dead for a day or two.
At 5:45 p.m., 18-year-old Malchia Pruitt was shot inside a home on Rose Lynn Lane in the Huffman area. Her brother, 20, is in custody but hasn't yet been charged.
Neighbors said the shooting of Pruitt was likely accidental. Witnesses said the brother had been holding an old gun, which they thought didn't work, when Pruitt was shot.
