The body of fallen Marine Lance Cpl. Jason Barfield arrived in Dothan today to a steady stream of mourners carrying signs and American flags as his body was transported from Dothan Regional Airport to a local funeral home.Barfield, a 22-year-old Marine from Ashford, died while on duty in Afghanistan Oct. 24. He was stationed in 29 Palms, Calif., and serving his first tour overseas after graduating from Ashford High School in 2008.
He was assigned to the 3rd Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force.
The funeral will take place at Ashford High School Saturday, Nov. 5, at 11 a.m. A memorial service will be held Friday, Nov. 4, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the same location.
