Huntsville, AL
A high-speed chase involving a truck and multiple law enforcement agencies came to a fiery end Saturday afternoon.
Police said the chase started around 1:30 p.m. near Bob Wade lane. Officers pursued a black pickup truck going south on Memorial Parkway and put down spike strips at Medaris Road.
The truck drove over the spikes and eventually lost control just before the I-565 exit and crashed into a guard rail. The truck caught flames shortly afterward, but officers said the man was already out of the vehicle.
Huntsville police said the chase started in Madison County. The driver allegedly tried to lure two boys who were in front of their home on Murphy Hill Road. Police said the boys did not advance and later reported the encounter to their mother.
The mother then informed her husband, who is an officer with the Huntsville Police Department. The officer, who was off-duty at the time, went to look for the driver after hearing about the encounter. Police said the officer later found and questioned the suspect, who then took off.
The father reported this to his department and the Madison County Sheriff's Department. Officers later spotted a truck matching the description near Alabama A&M.
When they tried to pull the driver over, he took off going more than 100 miles an hour down Memorial Parkway.
The suspect was taken to Huntsville Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. His name is not yet released.
Investigators with the Madison County Sheriff's Department said they expect to release the driver's name on today.
