K-9 officer Bodi blinded in shooting, but expected to survive

MONTGOMERY, Al
Bodi
The K-9 officer injured in Wednesday's shooting incident between police and an armed robbery suspect is expected to recover, but will be blind.
Bodi, the 11-year-old German shepherd, was shot multiple times while engaged with the suspect, who was also wounded by gunfire.
"He's a tough dog," said police Chief Kevin Murphy, with the Montgomery Police Department. "After he engaged the suspect and was shot, he didn't give up."
Murphy said today one of the K-9 handlers told him that Bodi wouldn't quit.
"He said, 'Chief, that dog would never quit. The only way to stop that dog is to kill it.' And that is the determination, the loyalty and the drive of these animals."
Murphy said Bodi had already been set to retire in the next four to five weeks. He will be honorably retired from police service and will continue to live with his handler. The dog's medical bills will be covered by the city for the rest of his life.
"He's a fighter and he's going to make it," Murphy said.
