Robbery suspect shoots K-9 in exchanged gunfire with Montgomery police

MONTGOMERY, Al.
The suspect in the armed robbery that left both himself and a K-9 officer wounded had exchanged gunfire with police in two locations, police say.
Adrian White, manager of the Title Cash in the 3100 block of Atlanta Highway, said there was only one associate in the store at the time of the robbery and she called police after the suspect left the store. He did not disclose the amount of money taken.

The suspect didn't get far from the scene of the crime. Martha Earnhardt, spokesperson for the Montgomery Police Department, said officers chased the suspect a short distance and located him in a shed behind a residence in the 300 block of Forest Park Drive.
Earnhardt said the shed was visible from the business that was robbed.
Shots were exchanged between the suspect and police at both Mimosa Drive and Forest Park Drive. The suspect suffered a gunshot wound to the leg during one of the exchanges.
The German shepherd K-9 officer, named Bodi, engaged the suspect before being shot multiple times. The 19-year-old man, whose name has not been released, was taken to an area hospital for treatment for a non-life threatening injury.
Earnhardt said the dog was rushed to emergency surgery and should recover, but will likely lose an eye.
Earnhardt said she expects charges to be brought in the case.
