Man taken to hospital for evaluation following 3-hour child hostage situation Monday

MONTGOMERY, Al.
An arrest has been made in a case from Monday when a man held a child hostage for three hours.
Daren Frazier, 32, of Montgomery, was arrested and charged with third-degree domestic violence-assault and first-degree unlawful imprisonment. The incident occurred in the King Hill neighborhood off Upper Wetumpka Road in the 800 block of Clarmont Avenue around 4:30 p.m.
Frazier was taken to a hospital for evaluation following the incident.
"Usually in situation like that they have to be evaluated to make sure there's not a bigger problem, like mental illness," Sgt. Donna Mackey said. "It's usually just precautionary."
Mackey could not confirm the relationship between Frazier and the boy he held hostage in a bathroom of a residence, but according to a witness, and cousin of the man, Frazier has a mental disorder and had no intention of harming the child, who is his son. The man did not have a weapon.
