Boaz woman arrested after giving birth to child affected by methamphetamine

HUNTSVILLE, Al.

A Boaz woman was arrested this morning after giving birth to a child that was suffering from the effects of methamphetamine, according to Marshall County Sheriff Scott Walls.

Shannon Marie Gomez, 27, of 141 Simpson St. in Boaz, was charged with chemical endangerment of a child this morning immediately after being discharged from the hospital, Walls said.

He said the child, currently in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at an area hospital,  was born prematurely Monday and was under the influence of meth. Gomez was booked in the Marshall County Jail under a $500,000 bond.
