Tuscaloosa plant to close, costing nearly 90 jobs

TUSCALOOSA, Al.
State officials say RadiciSpandex Corp. will close the company's Tuscaloosa plant in December, putting 89 employees out of work.
The company did not give a reason for closing the plant in the notice it sent to the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs.
Agency official Ricky Jordan said the notice from RadiciSpandex said layoffs at the facility would begin Dec. 14.
The Gastonia, N.C.-based company manufactures elastic fiber and yarn used in swimsuits, lingerie, exercise apparel and other clothing and products.
The company began operations in Tuscaloosa in 2001 after acquiring spandex maker Globe Manufacturing Corp., which had declared bankruptcy.
