If your traveling to downtown Montgomery any time soon, you may want to start leaving a few minutes early in order to find a parking space.
The City of Montgomery has begun work to tear up Commerce Street from Tallapoosa to Bibb Street in order to change parallel parking spaces into back-in only angular spaces.
City officials made the announcement in September, saying that the project, expected to be completed by the end of 2011, will help promote both vehicular and pedestrian safety.
Plans to change other nearby parking options are also in the works with the $10,000 project to transform the parking lot across for the Renaissance Spa and Convention Center into a 75-square foot green space.
