No special session to help Jefferson County likely before November, governor confirms

MONTGOMERY, Alabama
Gov. Robert Bentley
Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley says he hopes to call a special session of the Legislature in November to address Jefferson County's financial problems, but that depends on the county's legislative delegation and county commissioners coming to an agreement on legislation.
Bentley said Monday it would be hard to have a special session before November because any proposed legislation must be advertised for four weeks before lawmakers consider it.
Bentley said the state will give its support to any agreement, but money to address it must come from Jefferson County. He said he won't ask taxpayers statewide to pay the debts of Alabama's most populous county.
