Pregnant woman arrested in DeKalb for drug possession

IDER, Alabama
DeKalb County authorities arrested a pregnant woman last week for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Lauren Marie Fraley
Lauren Marie Fraley, 23, was arrested Sept. 13 on a tip from a citizen that she was involved in illegal drug activity on Alabama 75 in the Ider community, DeKalb Sheriff Jimmy Harris said in a news release.
Harris said he found out when Fraley was arrested that she was due to turn herself in the next day in Autauga County for sentencing on a charge of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance.
Because Fraley is four-months pregnant and was in possession of illegal drugs, the Department of Human Resources was contacted to investigate the safety of her unborn child, the news release states.
Fraley remains in the DeKalb County Jail with a $9,000 bond. When bond is posted, she'll be transported to Autauga County for sentencing on the charges there.
"This is another example of how much more effective we can be in controlling drug activity when we receive information from the community," Harris said in a statement. "Citizens function as our eyes and ears in the field, and we will always investigate any information that we receive."
