Muscle Shoals, Al.
Police are continuing to search for two men who reportedly robbed Sonic Drive-In on West Avalon Avenue early Monday morning.
Muscle Shoals Police Chief Robert Evans said the robbery occurred about 2 a.m.
The suspects are described as black men in their early 20s, one 6 feet tall and the other 5 feet 7 to 5 feet 8 in height, police said. They were both wearing hoodies over their heads and had their faces covered with bandanas.
Evans said an employee of the restaurant was slightly injured during the robbery when he walked out the back door of the restaurant and was punched in the face by one of the robbers as they were forcing him back into the business.
“They wanted him to open the door and go back inside and when he refused they hit him in the face, forcing him back inside,” said Muscle Shoals police detective Lt. Seig Mueller.
Reports indicate one of the robbers had a “long gun” either a shotgun or rifle.
Mueller said there were four employees in the business at the time of the robbery. Police said once the robbers got inside the business, the one with the gun ordered employees to all lie face down on the floor.
“They made the manager open the safe and then put the money into a white bag that (the robbers) brought with them,” Mueller said.
He said as the robbers started to leave, the man with the gun threatened them.
“He said if anyone followed them, he would come back and kill them,” Mueller said.
Police said the two men apparently left on foot.
