Troy high school football coach dies of apparent heart attack

TROY, Al,
A long-time assistant football coach at Charles Henderson High School in Troy died from an apparent heart attack at his home Tuesday. Tyrone Black, 42, served as the program's defensive coordinator for 16 years, says the report.

The school said in a statement released on their website Tuesday that Black served an important role at the Troy school.

"Coach Black was an integral part of our school, dedicating his life to the athletic program, his fellow coaches, and our student athletes," said the statement.

Players and fellow members of the Trojans coaching staff described Black as a constant mentor and father figure for the team.

“It’s not a glamorous job, but he put so much time and effort into his job and he did it well,” Irons said. “He gained a lot of respect from his players – and his peers," said CHHS baseball coach Derek Irons.
The Trojans also lost a senior defensive lineman,  Ronnell Moore, to a car accident in June. Two other players also lost their fathers during spring training. The losses, the players said, have prompted a greater sense of purpose when they suit up as a team.

“We will come together like we always have,” lineman Reggie Bradley said. “We’ll go out there and point towards the sky and play for Ronnell and now Coach Black.”

Funeral arrangements for Black have not been released at this time
