GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) — The Gadsden Civil Service Board is about to begin the process of hiring a new police chief and will hear from Mayor Sherman Guyton about his choice for a interim chief.
Guyton said Tuesday he will recommend an interim chief to serve while the five-member board goes through the process of naming a replacement for Chief Richard Crouch, who is retiring Oct. 1. Crouch agreed to retire as part of the settlement of a lawsuit over Social Security taxes that were mistakenly withheld from his and other police officers' paychecks.
Guyton declined to say who he would recommend for the interim post because he's still evaluating possible candidates. The civil service board meets Thursday.
