MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP)
Alabama's new chief justice, Chuck Malone, says he will announce soon whether he will run for a full term next year, but his party chairman predicts he will.
State Republican Party Chairman Bill Armistead was among more than 250 people who attended Malone's investiture Tuesday in Montgomery. Armistead said he expects an official campaign announcement from Malone very soon.
Malone is a former Tuscaloosa County circuit judge who served as Gov. Robert Bentley's chief of staff until Bentley appointed him chief justice on Aug. 1. He replaced Sue Bell Cobb, who resigned with 18 months left in her term. Cobb was among many present and former judges who attended the investiture.
So far, Republican Circuit Judge Charlie Graddick of Mobile is the only candidate who has announced for chief justice.
