Judge to hear lobbyist's bid to get out of jail

A federal judge will hear a request from a former casino lobbyist who wants out of a jail.
U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson has scheduled a hearing Wednesday for former Country Crossing lobbyist Jarrod Massey. Massey pleaded guilty in December to offering bribes to legislators to approve pro-gambling legislation. He volunteered to go to jail in January even though he hasn't been sentenced yet. He was a major witness for the prosecution in the gambling corruption trial that ended Aug. 11 with no convictions and a hung jury on seven defendants.
Massey had expected to be sentenced in November. But now he says that will be delayed because of the retrial in the gambling case, and he wants to get out of jail to attend to some personal issues.
